The Metropolitan Police has urged potential victims of comedian Russell Brand to come forward as new details emerge regarding ongoing criminal and civil proceedings against the 51 year old entertainer. Det Supt Andy Furphy, the strategic lead for Operation Actinolite, stated that the investigation is still active and that police believe there may be further women willing to share their experiences.

Following a four week trial at Southwark Crown Court, Brand was found guilty on Thursday of raping one fan and sexually assaulting three others over a five year period. While he was cleared of two additional rape counts and one attempted indecent assault count, the conviction has galvanized the police team to pursue leads on other allegations.

It has now been revealed that Brand is under investigation for two further rape allegations. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that files regarding these two complainants have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service. Detectives remain in close contact with prosecutors as inquiries continue and further investigative work is carried out.

Furphy described Brand as a predator whose behavior escalated in severity as his fame and wealth increased. He noted that Brand used his celebrity status and position of power to target women who often feared they would not be believed. The detective highlighted that the pattern of offending showed a clear progression, with Brand becoming more emboldened and less likely to be challenged as his profile grew.

Speaking to the media, Furphy emphasized the supportive environment the police have created for new witnesses. He stated that the conviction of Brand serves as an encouragement for others, as seeing the bravery of the women who testified may inspire them to share their own stories. The detective assured potential victims that specially trained officers are available to listen and support them.

The investigation, known as Operation Actinolite, involved extensive groundwork, including speaking to more than 100 witnesses and reviewing over 1,400 documents. Police took more than 340 statements from various individuals, including Brand's former employers and colleagues. While a couple of other women made allegations during this period, they did not result in criminal charges.

In parallel with the criminal inquiries, Brand faces a civil claim in the High Court in London. A woman alleges that in 2008, Brand sexually assaulted her at his Los Angeles mansion. She claims he forcibly removed her clothing and pushed her onto a bed, leading to post traumatic stress disorder symptoms. The case was stayed until the criminal trial concluded and seeks damages of up to 100,000 pounds.

The woman reported her allegation to the Metropolitan Police in 2025, stating she felt fortified by other women coming forward. Although her case was not included in the recent criminal trial due to jurisdictional issues regarding the location of the alleged offense, Brand's lawyers have described her claims as fundamentally dishonest.

Furphy also commented on the intense public scrutiny during the trial, noting that Brand continued to appear in media interviews and podcasts. While the detective said Brand stopped just short of crossing the line of what is acceptable in a live trial, the police were prepared to act if necessary. He hopes this case marks a watershed moment that may inspire other victims of sexual offenses, particularly from the era of lad culture, to come forward.

Brand is also facing a separate civil claim in the United States stemming from allegations in 2023 regarding an incident in 2010. None of the victims involved in the recent criminal case have submitted compensation claims, but the lead detective remains focused on supporting the women who have already come forward while keeping the investigation open for new reports.
