Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party, will begin operating under the direct command of Shin Bet Unit 730 on Sunday. A private security firm will provide the physical guard detail, but the agency’s elite unit will issue all tactical instructions.

The arrangement marks a change in protocol for Israeli political figures who do not hold current public office. In August, Shin Bet chief David Zini initially ruled that Eisenkot did not meet the criteria for Unit 730 protection. That decision reversed in September after the Advisory Committee for Personal Security reviewed new intelligence and threat evaluations.

Despite the approval, no security team had been assigned to Eisenkot as of last month. The party confirmed the detail will be active by this weekend.

Zini approved a wider framework for party leaders that includes intelligence oversight and the permission for hired security teams to carry weapons. The Shin Bet will coordinate with these private teams and conduct periodic assessments of the threat level. The Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs granted Zini the authority to set these terms for leaders without state protection until the next Knesset is sworn in.

Not all petitioners have received the same treatment. Yair Golan, chairman of The Democrats, requested protection citing a threat level similar to Eisenkot’s. The Shin Bet has denied his request for immediate state security at this stage.
