Oxford, Connecticut, residents face a decision on their local governance structure this week. Voters will determine whether to adopt a revised town charter on Tuesday, Nov. 3. This ballot measure sits alongside state and federal offices in the general election.

Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. at Quaker Farms School, located at 30 Great Oak Road. Those needing to register on the same day must go to Town Hall. The town’s official election notice provides the specific details for the charter revision.

A separate legal dispute heads to the Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday, Nov. 5. The board meets at 6 p.m. in the Main Meeting Room at 486 Oxford Road. They will hear a request regarding a detached garage at 17 Old Country Road. The proposal seeks permission for the structure to extend into a required 25-foot setback. The legal notice cites driveway constraints and a lack of space for an emergency vehicle turnaround.

The Parks and Recreation Commission met Monday evening at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Their agenda covered the fiscal 2025-26 financial overview and capital expenditure requests. They also reviewed program reports and set the schedule for 2027 meetings. The Board of Fire Chiefs also posted materials for a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Two events are planned for the following week. A regional household hazardous waste and paint collection is set for Saturday, Nov. 14. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ansonia Transfer Station, 1 N. Division St., in Ansonia. This date follows a postponement from the original Sept. 26 slot.

Oxford High School and the American Legion will hold a Veterans Day assembly on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the high school gym. It invites veterans, active military personnel, and first responders. The program includes a presentation of colors, student music, and remarks from veterans. A light luncheon follows for veterans and their families.
